Shimla / Manali / Dharamshala - 8 Nights / 9 Days

Day 01: Chandigarh - Shimla

Pick Up From Delhi or Chandigarh, Proceed to Shimla First, On way to Shimla, sightseeing and view attractions like Pinjore Garden, Timber train stop over, Reach Shimla By evening/Night, (Hotel Check In, Relax).

Day 02-: Shimla Local Site Seeing: - (Day 2 will be spent in Local Shimla Site Seeing)

After Breakfast, Local Site seeing in Shimla and excursions Around Shimla. Explore Shimla with Holiday Travel, Visit all iconic places in Shimla like Wild Flower Hall, Jakhoo Hill, Hanuman temple (Beware of the monkeys here), Geity Theater, Church. etc. Full Day Excursions &sightseeing to all points in Shimla. Explore the old colonial buildings, most famous amongst them being the Viceregal Lodge, its imposing six-storey edifice, manicured gardens etc. It is today the institute for advanced studies. It overlooks the Shimla State Museum, which is a treasure trove of Pahari art and sculpture. ExploreLakkar Bazaar, After Dinner, proceeds to the Mall Road & Shimla Ridge for night stroll and enjoy the city mountain lightings- Back to hotel late night.

Day 03: Shimla Excursions to Kufri& Chail for Site Seeing.

Drive to Kufri, Visit Kufri Attractions like Kufri Zoo, Kufri at a height of 8250 feet, famous for its ski-slopes and fine views of deep valleys and thick forests. Kufri has a Himalayan Wild Life Zoo which hosts rare antelopes, felines and birds including Himalayan Monal, the state bird of Himachal Pradesh. During winter a meandering path through the potato plantations turns into a popular ski track. After spending 2 hours in Kufri. Proceed to Chail.

Drive to Chail, Visit the Chail Sanctuary, which is home to lush Deodar and Oak forests. The sanctuary was established in 1976 and houses animals like Sambar, Goral, Himalayan Black Bear, Red Deer, Barking Deer, Indian Hare, Common Langur and Leopard. After this Visit Chail Palace.

Visit The Maharaja's Palace is situated on the Rajgarh Hill. As the name suggests, it was the palace of the maharaja, which was built by him as his summer retreat. Extending over an astounding area, the palace offers breathtaking views of the sprawling surroundings.

Return to Shimla by the evening and night stay in Shimla.

Day 04: Travel from Shimla to Manali – Route Details

After early breakfast you will proceed to Manali. Start early from Shimla so you can spend more time on the way towards Manali and reach before dark. The distance between Shimla and Manali is 265 kilometers, Holiday Travel taxi will take 8 to 10 hours to travel this distance as the whole road passes through hills and there are lots of twists and turns on the way and average speed of the vehicle remains between 25 to 40 kilometers per hour only.

We will have break journey at various picturesque points, and tea breaks in Aut&Mandi. Our driver will give you full photo opportunity enroute. Lunch can be taken at Mandi which is approx half way between Manali & Shimla.

At 105 KM from Shimla we will reach Bilaspur. Bilaspur is the lunch point and there are many restaurants , Dhabas, On the left side is the SunderNagar Lake. Photography is not allowed here.

Start of the Scenic Route
After traveling 25 KM from Sundarnagarwe will reach Mandi. Here we will meet river Beas. This river will be at your right side upto Manali. All the scenic places will start from here. So we will try to reach Mandi as early as possible.

12 KM from Mandi, we can see Pondoh Dam at your right. Photography is not allowed here. If we climb up the hill and to our right the total dam view will be visible. Further 12 KM we will get Anokhi Mata temple. River Beas will be at the right. Further 22 KM from here you will reach Aut town and before that you will pass through a 2.8 KM long tunnel. Just before entering the tunnel the right side road will take you to Jalori pass and further to Rampur of Shimla district.

Good restaurants are available at Aut , all these restaurants have extended gardens and lawns by the side of the river. Take a cup of tea here and then start moving towards Kullu.. After 15KM from Aut you can see Buntur Airport at your right side. Here Parvati River joins Beas River. You can take a bypass road to avoid traffic in Kullu town. Before Manali towards right will be small town Naggar, famous for Naggar Castle.

Reach Manali in Night, On arrival check in at hotel. Dinner and overnight stay at Manali.

Day 05: Day 5 will be spent on travelling to Solangnalla

Manali - Manali to Solang valley, Paragliding and Adventure Fun, Rope Way Rides, Move Towards The nearest Snow Point where-ever the car can reach or Accessible, back to Hotel by evening.

Details of SolangNalla:- SolangNullah: 14 km north-west of Manali in the Solang Valley, this place offers Himachal Pradesh's best ski slopes. A 300 m ski lift is operated by the Mountaineering and Allied Sports Institute. February is best month to ski. HPTDC runs seven day package for ski courses with accommodation in the Hotel RohtangManaslu in Manali. Courses are also offered by Mountaineering and Allied Sports Institute and the North Face Ski School. For accommodation, hotel and guest houses are available.

Day 06: Manali Local Landmarks Sight Seeing in manali

Day 6 will be the day of local site seeing in Manali, we will see the Important Heritage & Ancient Landmarks like Hadimba Temple, Tibetan Monastery, and Club House & Hot Water Springs andVashisht temple.

Details of the Local Places in Manali:-
  • HADIMBA TEMPLE: Manali has many attractions but the chief centre of interest, historically and archeologically, is undoubtedly the DHOONGRI TEMPLE dedicated to goddess Hadimba, the Bhim of Mahabharata fame. It has four-tiered Pagoda shaped roof and the doorway is carved with legendary figures and symbols.
  • MANU TEMPLE: 3 kms. From the main Bazar in old Manali lies the temple of MANU RISHI. It is believed that this is the only temple of Manu in India, who was the creator of human race on the earth.
  • TIBETAN MONASTERIES: There are 3 newly constructed colorful monasteries, where visitors can buy carpets and other Tibetan handicrafts. Two are located in the town and one at Aleo on the left bank of Beas River.
  • VASHIST HOT WATER SPRINGS AND TEMPLE (3 kms): Vashist, a small village located on the left bank of river Beas towards Rohtang pass is worth a visit. It is renowned for its hot springs and temples. Nearby is the pyramidal stone temple dedicated to Vashist Muni.

Day 07: Optional Tour of the Naggar. ( If Required)

  • JAGATSUKH: 6 kms. From Manali located on the left bank on Beas on the road to Naggar. The place is famous for very old temples of Lord Shiva and Sandhya Gayatri in Shikhara style, these are worth a visit.
  • Rohriech Art Gallery: The paintings of the famous Russian artist are exhibited here.
  • Naggar Castle: The old capital of Kullu, it gives a captivating view of the upper Kullu valley
  • ARJUN GUFA (CAVE): 4kms. From Manali towards Naggar, the cave is situated near Prini village 1km. above the road where Arjun had meditated. This is good 1/2 a day excursion with charming view of the brilliant mountains.

Day 07: Travel from Manali to Dharamshala

After breakfast drive to Dharamshala. Manali to Dharamshala by Road is approximatly 260 kms and journey will be covered by Holidaytravel provided taxi in approx 7-8 hours.

We prefer to start early from Manali so we can spend more time on the way towards Dharamshala and reach well before dark.The Route passes through Kullu, Naggar, Bhuntar, Mandi, Jogindernagar, Palampur, Dharamshala. Actually we need to come back till Mandi which is a common point. The Lunch Options are available in Mandi, Jogindernagar.

Day 08: Dharamshala - Local Site Seeing in Macleodganj
Start Morning after the breakfast and embark on the Local siteseeings for the Great Town Mcleodganj ( The Tibetan Capital in Excile) In India. Local site seeing include covering the following local attractions. These attractions are close by with in 10 km radius and will be covered by the evening. Back to the City Centre town by the eveing and enjoy the evening dinner in some of the choiciest and recommended Restaurants in Mcleodganj. HolidayTravel recommends Mclow restaurant.

Bhagsu Falls - Bhagsu Falls is a small yet beautiful waterfall located 2km away from Mcleodganj. Around 0.5 km from the waterfall stands the Bhagsunath temple and the waterfall is revered by devotees who throng the temple. The falls is easily reachable by taxis or autos

Dal Lake - Dal Lake, which is 2km walk westwards from Mcleodganj market, is renowned for its scenic beauty and the cool ambience. With an altitude of 1775 m, the lake is situated at the vehicular road between Mcleodganj and the village of Naddi. Surrounded by deep green Deodar forests.

Tsuglagkhang - Situated towards the southern end of the town is the holy abode of the Tibetan leader, Dalai Lama, the Tsuglagkhang Complex. Namgyal Monastery is a part of this sanctum and thousands of pilgrims' travel here seeking the blessings of the leader. Reachable by taxi, all the parts of the monastery.

Namgyal Monastery - Namgyal Monastery in Dharamsala is a sacred building enclosing the residence of Dalai Lama, the spiritual leader of Tibetan Government in exile. The complex is constructed in a location near McleodGanj and is overlooked by the mountain ranges of Dhauladhar.

Tibet Museum - Tibet Museum is located inside the Tsuglagkhang Complex in Mcleodganj (5km), Dharamsala. The museum has the credit of being the first modern Museum in Dharamsala. Settled in a huge plinth area, the museum has separate places for meeting, exhibitions and displays.

Day 09: Dharamshala –Excursions around Mcleodganj. ( Optional)
After Breakfast, start the excursions around Mcleodganj. This day we will cover St John Church enroute to Dharamshala, Chamunda Devi temple, Palampur Tea Factory. Back to town by the evening and enjoy the beautiful Mcleodganj town on your own leisure & night Stay in Mcleodganj Hotel.

St. John in the Wilderness-St. John in the Wilderness is an Anglican church dedicated to John the Baptist built in 1852, located near Dharamshala, India, on the way to McLeodGanj, at Forsyth Gunj. Set amidst deodar forest, and built in neo-Gothic architecture, the church is known for its Belgian stained-glass windows donated by Lady Elgin (Mary Louisa Lambton), wife of Lord Elgin.

Chamunda Devi Temple-Chamunda Devi is a Shakti shrine, situated 10 km west of Palampur, on the Baner River. This colorful shrine has a wrathful form of Durga or Chamunda. The idol in the temple is considered so sacred that it is completely hidden beneath a red cloth. Here Lord shiva is present in the form of death, destruction & dead bodies along with Devi Chamunda. In the temple the devotees can see scenes from the Devi Mahatmya, Ramayan and Mahabharata. On either side of the Devi's image is Hanuman and Bhairo.

Palampur Neugal Cafe & Tea Factory Visit-Palampur is famous for its picturesque and snow clad mountains and tea gardens. Tea gardens are located between 800-1600 meters above mean sea level, we will take a break journey from Chamunda at Neugal park, here you take some hot sips of coffee with the awesome cold winds and have a pleasant view nearby, few kilometres ahead is Bundla chasm which falls over a 100metres to the Bundla stream. The stream is a thin streak running over stony ground far below the cliff. During the monsoon seasons, it swells and rages - madly over the entire width of the chasm taking stones and boulders along with it and makes loud roaring noise like thunder.

After spending 1 hour in Neugal Cafe Area, proceed to see the Palampur tea factory and see how the tea is produced, processed and packaged by State Run Palampur Tea factory. At Palampur tea factory, you can take tea as a souvenir gift and personal use. Kangra tea tastes different and has rich aroma.

On the Road Side, you can also buy the Locally made Pickles (These pickles are of very rare herbs, which are produced organically)

In the evening back to Mcleodganj& Night stay at the hotel

Day 9: Depart Dharamshala - Chandigarh (300 Kms) -
Star the journey back to Chandigarh from Mcleodganj, enroute back to Chandigarh, if time permits visit the following famous temples (Kangra Devi & Jwala Devi temples)

Details of the Attractions:-

  • Kangra Devi - Kangra is a city and a municipal council in Kangra district in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. Historically it was known as Nagarkot and "Trigram". Kangra is famous for Devi Barjeshwari temple, it I also a Shaktee peeth.he Goddess, located in the town of Kangra is also called Vrajeshvari. It is believed that when Sati's body was cut into different pieces the remaining part stayed in this place. Sati's breast fell here. People come from great distances to worship the Goddess. Devi is worshipped here in the form of a pindi as you can see in the upper image. Food offerings are divided into three parts. One part each for Mahalakshmi, Mahakali and Mahasaraswati.
  • Jwalamukhi Devi - Jwalamukhi is a famous temple to the goddess Jwalamukhi, the deity of flaming mouth, built over some natural jets of combustible gas, believed to be the manifestation of the Goddess. Raja Bhumi Chand Katoch of Kangra, a great devotee of goddess Durga, dreamt of the sacred place and the Raja set people to find out the whereabouts of the site. The site was traced and the Raja built a temple at that location. The building is modern with a gilt dome and pinnacles, and possesses a beautiful folding door of silver plates. Under the gaze of the Dhauladhar range and set amidst the undulating hills that character sub-Himalayan Himachal Sati's tongue is believed to have fallen at Jwalamukhi and the goddess is manifest as tiny flames that burn a flawless blue through fissures in the age old rock.
After Darshan at Jwalamukhi, Drop at the Chandigarh Airport, Time to depart with best wishes from Holiday Travel but Sweet Memories Remain.
